Fall and Winter Whitetail Deer Internship

Next Level Whitetails is seeking motivated individuals for our Fall & Winter Animal Husbandry Internship within our premier whitetail breeding and hunting operation. This internship provides hands-on experience in all aspects of herd management, breeding operations, and facility maintenance during one of the busiest and most important seasons of the year. Interns will work alongside experienced staff to develop practical knowledge of animal husbandry, nutrition, herd health, breeding, facilities management, and the daily operations required to maintain a high-quality whitetail breeding and hunting facility. Primary Responsibilities Some of the primary duties of our Fall & Winter Interns include, but are not limited to: • Daily fence inspections and repairs as needed • Routine pen inspections to ensure animal health, safety, and security • Filling, cleaning, and maintaining feeders and water stations • Monitoring feed and water consumption • Observing deer for signs of illness, injury, or behavioral changes • Assisting with herd health documentation and record keeping • Administering vaccinations, medications, and other treatments under supervision • Assisting with breeding activities and breeding season management • Assisting with deer handling during health checks and routine management procedures • General facility cleaning and organization • Equipment cleaning and preventative maintenance • Snow removal and plowing of roads, driveways, and operational areas • General grounds and property maintenance Additional Opportunities Depending on the needs of the operation and the intern's experience, additional responsibilities may include: • Assisting with nutritional and feeding program management • Inventory management of feed, medical supplies, and equipment • Preparing facilities for winter weather conditions • Assisting with habitat improvements and property projects • Learning principles of genetics, breeding selection, and herd management • Participating in guided hunts and hospitality • Additional employment opportunities or extended employment opportunities may exist for the right candidate Qualifications We are looking for individuals who: • Have a positive attitude and strong work ethic • Work well independently and as part of a team • Take initiative and remain productive without constant supervision • Are dependable, punctual, and willing to learn • Enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions • Have a genuine interest in wildlife, agriculture, or animal husbandry • Are willing to perform physically demanding work Expectations • Must be able to work long hours during busy times when necessary • Must be comfortable working outdoors in cold, snowy, and variable weather conditions • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds • Must be able to walk uneven terrain and perform physically demanding tasks • Must provide reliable transportation • Must prepare their own meals and provide their own food • Must maintain a clean living space in provided housing • Non-smoker preferred but absolutely no smoking is permitted in buildings or equipment What You'll Gain This internship offers an exceptional opportunity for students and individuals interested in pursuing careers in wildlife management, animal science, agriculture, veterinary medicine, or the whitetail breeding industry. Successful interns will gain valuable real-world experience and a comprehensive understanding of the day-to-day management of a professional whitetail breeding and hunting operation.
