Finance & Business Analysis Director Saginaw Children’s Zoo is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and trusted Finance & Business Analysis Director to oversee the Zoo’s financial operations and provide financial and business analysis to support sound organizational decision-making. The position also coordinates key administrative functions related to human resources, technology, and organizational projects. This position reports to the Executive Director/President and works closely with the Saginaw Valley Zoological Society Board’s Finance Committee. The Director serves as a key financial and administrative resource to managers and staff throughout the Zoo. Finance & Business Analysis – Approximately 70% The Director provides leadership and oversight of the Zoo’s financial operations and delivers timely, accurate information to support management and Board decision-making. Responsibilities include: • Overseeing accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, banking, and cash management • Preparing and analyzing monthly financial statements, management reports, and financial information for the Executive Director and Board Finance Committee • Leading the annual budgeting process and monitoring actual performance against budget • Developing financial forecasts, cash-flow projections, financial models, and other analyses • Analyzing financial and operational data to identify trends, opportunities, risks, and areas for improvement • Monitoring restricted funds and ensuring financial activity is properly recorded and reported • Coordinating annual audits, tax filings, and other financial compliance requirements • Establishing and maintaining appropriate internal controls, financial policies, and procedures • Supporting financial planning, strategic decisions, and organizational initiatives through financial and operational analysis • Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting, efficiency, and organizational performance • Providing managers with financial information and analysis to support effective operational and budgetary decisions • Ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial information used by management and the Board The Director is expected to understand the relationship between the Zoo’s financial results and its operations and to translate financial and operational information into useful, practical information for management. Human Resources, Technology & Organizational Support – Approximately 30% The Director coordinates selected administrative functions related to human resources, technology, and organizational projects, working in partnership with the Executive Director and the Zoo’s external HR and technology resources. Responsibilities include: • Maintaining accurate personnel and HRIS records • Coordinating employee benefits, required training, certifications, and related documentation • Supporting recruiting, onboarding, and employee recordkeeping processes • Assisting with implementation and maintenance of HR policies, procedures, and systems • Coordinating technology systems, software, licenses, vendors, and administrative needs • Serving as an internal point of coordination with external technology providers • Supporting cross-functional organizational projects and process improvements • Developing and documenting administrative processes that improve efficiency and accountability • Providing administrative leadership and support for organizational initiatives as assigned The Director is responsible for the Zoo’s day-to-day administrative processes within these areas while relying on the Executive Director, external HR resources, technology providers, and other specialists for expertise and matters requiring higher-level authority. Employee-relations investigations, conflict resolution, advanced IT support, cybersecurity, network administration, and technical repairs are outside the primary scope of this position. Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered • Progressive experience in accounting, finance, financial analysis, business operations, or a related field • Demonstrated ability to analyze financial and operational information and communicate findings clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences • Strong budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and analytical skills • Experience with accounting software, financial reporting systems, and Microsoft Office/Excel • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy, discretion, and confidentiality • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a dynamic nonprofit environment • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with managers, staff, vendors, and Board members • Nonprofit experience preferred Compensation Salary Range: $60,000–$75,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
