A research technician is needed to assist with fisheries ecology projects based at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. The position will include both field and campus-based work. Fieldwork will involve sampling freshwater fishes, measuring aquatic habitat, tracking tagged fish, downloading data from submersible ultrasonic receivers (SURs), maintaining field equipment, and recording field data. When not in the field, the technician will work on campus in Auburn assisting with data entry, data organization and quality control, and preparation of tables and figures as appropriate. Fieldwork will occur throughout Alabama and Mississippi, including remote areas. The technician must be willing to travel for approximately 1–2 weeks at a time when necessary. Field housing will be provided during field trips. Work may involve long days, early mornings, hot and humid conditions, and working from boats. Applicants must have some previous experience operating boats and some experience with electrofishing. Additional experience with fisheries sampling, fish identification, telemetry, habitat measurements, data management, R, or Excel is helpful but not required. Applicants should be dependable, willing to learn, comfortable working as part of a field crew, and attentive to safety and data quality.
