Job Title M.S. Assistantship – Coastal Water Quality Agency Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Department Harte Research Institute Job Location Corpus Christi, Texas Job Description A Master’s student position is available in the Coastal Water Health Laboratory (https://www.harteresearch.org/research/coastal-water-health), beginning in Spring 2027. The successful applicant will monitor water quality in Redfish Bay, Texas and perform microbial source tracking to identify sources (human, canine, gull) of fecal pollution impacting the bay. The results of this project will be used to guide management recommendations on which pollutant sources should be addressed and prioritized to best improve water quality in the Coastal Bend. The position will be co-advised by Dr. Nicole Powers and Dr. Michael Wetz. Funding will be available to cover one year of a Research Assistantship; additional semesters will be covered by Teaching Assistantships. Key Responsibilities · Conduct field-based water quality monitoring in Redfish Bay · Perform lab-based microbial source tracking via droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) to identify pollutant sources · Analyze bacterial data in the context of environmental variables · Summarize findings in a written Master’s Thesis Qualifications · Minimum: Bachelor’s degree within a microbiology, environmental science, marine biology, or closely related field · Preferred: Experience in PCR and water quality analysis How To Apply Please email Dr. Nicole Powers (Nicole.Powers@tamucc.edu) with your CV and statement of interest to be considered for the position.
