APPROXIMATE START DATE: First position: December 15, 2026 Second position: January 15, 2027 APPROXIMATE END DATE: First position July 31, 2027 Second position: August 31, 2027 Description: St Catherines Island Foundation (SCIF) is hiring two Temporary Lemur Keepers. St. Catherines Island is privately owned by the non-profit organization, St. Catherines Island Foundation, and is barrier island on the Georgia coast who has maintained a lemur population for 40 years. Throughout this time, countless scientific papers have been published on ring tailed lemur behavior, social behavior, reproduction, foraging patterns, etc. St. Catherines Island is isolated and the majority of the time will be spent on-island with the small staff of SCIF. Much of the island is untouched so there is minimal cell phone coverage. Biting insects, rain, wind, heat, and high humidity should all be expected. That being said, the island and beaches are absolutely stunning and any time spent on a barrier island is a great time. Located 40 minutes from Savannah and the Florida state line. Loads of things to see and explore while on your off days. Compensation, Housing, and Transportation: · A $1,500 monthly payment (less taxes) is split into biweekly installments, paid every other Friday through regular payroll. · Housing is provided in a shared home with individual rooms with bathrooms and climate control. Basic linens and toiletries are provided. · Boats to and from SCI are limited and boat access may not always be possible on a given off day. Boat and island transportation is provided but mainland transportation is up to the applicant. Time Requirements: 5, 6 hour work days are required with 2 consecutive off days in a row. Hours are generally 8am-2:30pm and 7:30-8pm daily with a 1 hour lunch break (these hours may fluctuate due to emergencies, staff shortages, medical procedures, or other happenings) This position will work under the supervision of the SCIF Assistant Curator of Animal Programs, SCIF Director of Operations, and other SCIF staff. Key Responsibilities: · Daily preparation and administration of medications · Daily visual inspection of all lemurs, holding areas, housing, etc · Daily feeding and diet preparation · Husbandry of animal housing facilities and free ranging sites (to include, but not limited to: feces removal, dishes, scrubbing of urine and feces, raking, laundry, weeding, perch placement, debris removal, sanitization and sterilization of equipment) · Daily enrichment development and deployment · Browse identification, selection, deployment · Maintain written records and enter data in a timely and organized fashion. · Coordinate repairs and maintenance of equipment and facilities · Sand hill crane and turkey feeding and diet preperataion · Adherence to all SCI rules and regulations · Maintain assigned equipment and vehicles QUALIFICATIONS: · B.S. in a related field (e.g. biology, environmental science, wildlife management, zoology, ecology-related program) preferred. · Previous exotic or domestic animal experience preferred · Experience with computer databases · Ability to conduct strenuous work outdoors in rough summer/winter weather conditions of coastal Georgia, including warm humid temperatures, storms and rain, biting insects, and time alone or being secluded from the mainland · Must be able to repeatedly lift 50lbs · Positive demeanor, with demonstrated ability to solve problems in group settings and individually, good interpersonal skills · Excellent communication skills · Responsible, self-starting, and organized · Conflict resolution, compassion and understanding · Personal cell phone required · Negative TB test prior to start date · Rabies vaccination preferred but not required All qualified applicants will be considered but may not necessarily receive an interview.
