Washington State University, Crowder Lab · Washington · fellowship · posted yesterday
Dear Ecology List Serve, The Crowder lab at Washington State University (http://entomology.wsu.edu/david-crowder/) is seeking a postdoctoral scientist working in the broad area of plant-microbe interactions. The position is available as early as January 2027, but candidates that can start anytime in 2027 will be considered. The position is supported for 18 months, with a possibility of an extension based on progress and funding. Research in our lab has shown that interactions between legume crop hosts (pea, lentil, chickpea) and soil-borne mutualistic bacteria (rhizobia) can strongly affect plant performance and the tolerance to vectors (aphids, leafhoppers) and vector-borne pathogens. However, few studies have assessed how the diversity of rhizobia bacteria in the field affect plant productivity, and whether rhizobia can be genetically manipulated for improved plant inoculants. The successful postdoc will be expected to conduct field, laboratory, and greenhouse experiments to better understand how interactions between legume crop hosts and rhizobia bacteria affect plant growth, tolerance to stress, and overall host quality. The research is funded by a USDA grant focusing on optimizing plant-microbe mutualisms in the Pacific Northwest. The ideal postdoc candidate will have experience working in molecular ecology of plants and microbes and/or plant-microbe interactions. Moreover, experience with chemical and molecular methods to measure plant defenses, nutrient levels, and volatiles is highly desirable. The postdoc will join a diverse lab of researchers working on plant-insect-microbe interactions in a variety of ecosystems of the Pacific Northwest. The salary is $70K per year, with benefits. To apply please send a cover letter detailing your interest, a CV, copies of up to 3 relevant reprints, and a list of 3 references to dcrowder@wsu.edu. Applications will be reviewed as they are received. Dave
