Raptor View Research Institute is a non-profit organization seeking a temporary, full-time avian field technician for the 2026-2027 field season. Our work focuses on raptor research and conservation, with an emphasis on capturing Bald and Golden Eagles wintering in the Bitterroot Valley in western Montana. The field technician will work as part of a small team to capture eagles by setting up bait stations paired with net launchers throughout MPG Ranch in Florence, Montana. Technicians will gain experience handling large raptors, attaching GPS transmitters, banding and wing-tagging, collecting morphometric measurements, and collecting blood samples. Field work includes time outside in winter conditions and may include late evenings, depending on the time eagles are captured. Trapping sites are monitored remotely on-site through a network of cellular trail cameras; as the field crew waits for eagles to show up at the bait, they will work on office projects that support our long-term database organization and future data analysis. We encourage technicians to shape this office time around their own interests and goals, and we will work with the group to find projects that support personal development. Prior experience with data management and software programs (e.g., Excel, ArcGIS, R) is a plus, but not required. The field technician is expected to work 40 hours per week at $15/hour. The position will last approximately 12 weeks. Shared housing is provided and located in Stevensville, Montana. A shared work vehicle will be provided for field duties.
