Project description and responsibilities: We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to lead the development of a regional integrated population model for trumpeter swans in the Midwest. This project is funded by the Midwest Climate Adaptation Science Center and will focus on understanding how climate has influenced the dynamics and distribution of this species over the past ~30 years. Project deliverables will be tailored to the needs of partner state agencies to inform their decisions about harvest and monitoring. Responsibilities will include managing and analyzing demographic data from multiple states, communicating with project partners, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and preparing reports. The position will be supervised by Dr. Anna Tucker and based at the USGS Iowa Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit at Iowa State University. The postdoc will be expected to participate in our lab community and will have the opportunity to engage in mentoring, proposal development, research collaborations, and teaching if desired. Qualifications: Ph.D. in Wildlife Sciences, Ecology, Applied Statistics, or a related field. Applicants must have experience with R programming and hierarchical modeling. Experience with mark-recapture analyses, working with large datasets, publishing in the peer-reviewed literature, and Bayesian modeling preferred. The ideal candidate has an inclusive mindset, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work well with a large and diverse research team. Salary and benefits: Annual salary of approx. $60,000 and full benefits (more information here) for up to 2 years. Immediate start date preferred.
