Georgia Institute of Technology · Georgia · posted today

Fully Funded PhD Position in Ecosystem Ecology at Georgia Tech The Kostka Lab at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for a PhD student position focused on the ecology, resilience, and restoration of coastal salt marshes. The student will join an interdisciplinary research collaboration with the Bald Head Island Conservancy (https://bhic.org/), investigating how environmental change and disturbance affect salt marsh ecosystems and how nature-based solutions can support their conservation and recovery. The start date is early August, 2027. The Kostka Lab (https://sites.gatech.edu/kostkalab/) bridges the Schools of Biological Sciences and Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Georgia Tech to develop the science needed to protect the salt marshes that protect coastal communities. Interested students should have a background in ecology, biology, environmental science, marine science, Earth science, geography, or a related discipline, including strong quantitative skills.  Experience with GIS, remote sensing, R, Python, LiDAR, RTK-GPS, plant ecology, sediment dynamics, or coastal field methods would be valuable but is not required. Applicants from varied academic and personal backgrounds are encouraged to apply. The lab is heavily field and laboratory oriented and so the ability to work in the field would be viewed positively.  The research assistantship includes full tuition remission. Review will begin immediately until the position is filled.  Please send a brief statement describing research interests, relevant experience, and motivation for pursuing this PhD opportunity along with a current curriculum vitae as soon as possible to Dr. Joel Kostka, joel.kostka@biology.gatech.edu, subject line “Ecology PhD position”.
