The Williams Lab in the Department of Biological Science at Florida State University is recruiting a PhD student interested in community ecology to join the lab starting in Fall 2027. The PhD student would study resource-consumer interactions between seed-producing trees (such as pines and oaks) and seed-consuming vertebrates (mainly mice). Potential research topics include temporal resource dynamics, diet analysis, vertebrate population dynamics, interactions among multiple trophic levels, and/or fire ecology. Students will have the opportunity to conduct fieldwork in the longleaf pine savannas of northern Florida and/or southern Georgia. Applicants should have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in ecology, environmental science, biology, or a related field. Prior experience with fieldwork, data analysis, and scientific writing is preferred. To apply, email Dr. Peter Williams (pwilliams15@fsu.edu) by November 1st, 2026 with the subject line "Prospective PhD Student". Include (1) your CV or resume, (2) a one-page cover letter summarizing your research background, research interests, and why you are interested in joining the lab, and (3) contact information for 2-3 professional references. Zoom interviews will be scheduled with the most competitive applicants. Selected applicants will then be asked to officially apply to the FSU biology graduate program by December 1st.
