POSITION OVERVIEW The Oregon Hunters Association Conservation Coordinator will provide ~40 variable hours per week and advocate for Oregon’s wildlife, habitat and hunters, while representing OHA. This position will follow important conservation issues and keep OHA appraised of their potential impacts on Oregon hunters and wildlife. This position will assist OHA chapters in organizing at the local level and increase their involvement with habitat projects and wildlife management in their areas. We seek an individual to review natural resource management plans and prepare and submit comments on OHA’s behalf. We’re looking for someone who can promote the conservation goals and accomplishments of OHA through the media and public speaking engagements, including public agency meetings and legislative hearings. We need a person who can talk to members, address large groups, and communicate with agency professionals. This is a remote, full- or part-time position (negotiable). Applicants must be located in Oregon. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS 1. Track conservation issues pertaining to land use planning, development, federal policy, hunting, and wildlife-related rulemaking among others 2. Develop written and provide oral comments on county, state, and federal land use planning 3. Procure grants to support OHA staff, local chapter projects, State OHA led regional habitat projects and see grants through final reporting 4. Cultivate quality habitat projects for OHA chapters 5. Track all OHA projects and convey the collective impact of the OHA Conservation Program. 6. Provide presentations on important issues and accomplishments to OHA chapters 7. Participate in work groups, coalitions and Resource Advisory Councils 8. Collaborate with agency leadership, staff, and other partner organizations 9. Assist in the operation and execution of the annual OHA State Convention and Chapter Summit. 10. Maintain daily contact with the OHA Conservation Director and prepare written reports for the State OHA Board of Directors 11. Perform other duties assigned by the OHA Executive Director and Conservation Director KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES 1. Bachelor’s degree in natural resource related field (MS Preferred) 2. Working knowledge of wildlife management 3. Excellent interpersonal skills 4. Must be highly organized and be able to motivate volunteers 5. Must be able to take direction, and work closely with OHA staff, officers and board members 6. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and possess technical skills (ArcGIS/mapping skills Preferred) 7. Must possess strong writing and public speaking skills 8. Must be able to prepare, organize, and deliver testimony 9. Must be comfortable towing a trailer 10.
