Idaho Department of Fish and Game is hiring a Sr. Wildlife Technician that will perform a variety of work to support statewide wildlife research and management efforts. Current research projects cover almost all big game and many small game species in the State. The primary duty will be assisting with, preparation for, and execution of, statewide winter ungulate (elk, mule deer, moose, bighorn sheep) captures; which involves coordinating the preparation, programming, and distribution of GPS collars across the State, coordination of capture personnel, proper handling and cataloging of capture samples, and participation in capture activities. Other duties may include a variety of field biology work (e.g., field necropsies, etc), data entry, report preparation, and fleet/equipment maintenance as needed. Housing will be available at $50/mo. The successful candidate will be primarily stationed in Boise but must be willing to travel about the State, stay in a variety of lodging types (hatchery dorms, RV trailers, and hotels), and work extended, irregular hours (nights and weekends) for extended periods of time. Qualifications: Must have strong communication skills and the ability to interact well with coworkers and the public, be detail-oriented and organized, navigate and work independently in remote settings in adverse weather conditions, be able to lift/carry up to 60 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodations, have experience with 4x4 trucks and off-road vehicles, driving in rugged conditions while pulling a utility trailer, be willing and able to work in and around aircraft (fixed-wing and helicopter), and be able to follow a rigid protocol and record detailed data in a field setting. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and have a good knowledge of wildlife management principles and practices. Must have a good working knowledge of PC operation and the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access). Preference will be given to applicants with experience programming GPS collars, experience with ArcGIS, experience coordinating and conducting field research projects, organizing large groups of people to complete field projects, and experience with sample handling and data management and analysis (including programming with R).
