Postdoctoral Researcher in Mountain Lion Population Genetics Nevada Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit & University of Nevada, Reno Project description and responsibilities: We seek a Postdoctoral Researcher to lead a project quantifying mountain lion population genetic structure and landscape connectivity across Nevada. The postdoc will be based out of the Nevada Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit (NVCFWRU) in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences (NRES) at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). Project objectives include estimating statewide population genetic diversity and differentiation, effective population sizes, and identifying the landscape drivers of genetic connectivity. The ideal candidate will have experience generating and analyzing genome-wide datasets and be able to develop/implement code (e.g. python, R) for raw data processing, estimating standard population genetic metrics, and integrating genomic data with spatial datasets. The postdoc will be expected to work closely with state agency staff, produce project reports, publish at least one peer-reviewed journal article, give presentations to cooperators and at professional conferences, and supervise project data management. The Postdoc will work on campus and be co-advised by Drs. Brian Folt and Marjorie Matocq. The Postdoc will be an integral part of our lab communities and will have opportunities to engage in mentoring, grant writing, developing research collaborations, and other aspects of professional development. Our lab communities are committed to the development of early-career scholars and we value intersectional diversity and work-life balance. Qualifications: PhD in population genetics, wildlife biology, conservation biology, or a related field. Applicants must have experience in generating and analyzing genome-wide datasets (e.g. ddRAD or WGS) and conducting standard population genetic analyses. Candidates must have strong oral and written communication skills and must have strong data management skills. Preferred candidates will have knowledge of mammalian ecology and management, as well as a strong record of publishing peer-reviewed literature. Salary and benefits: Annual salary of $62,500/year and full benefits for up to 18 months (or more, depending on funding). January 2027 start date preferred. To apply: To apply, please email a letter of interest, CV, and contact information for 3 references to Folt and Matocq (bfolt@unr.edu, mmatocq@unr.edu). Interested applicants are welcomed to reach out to Folt and Matocq with questions via email before applying. We will begin reviewing applications on 26 Oct 2026 and the position will be opened until filled.
