Smith, PhD (he/him/his) Associate Professor - University of Nebraska - Lincoln Davidson and Fuller Presidential Chair in Life Sciences - University of Nebraska-Lincoln Adjunct Professor - Texas Tech University Website: smithecophyslab.com Title Temporary Research Technician for Smith Plant Ecophysiology Lab Description A Temporary Research Technician position in the lab of Dr. Nick Smith in the School of Biological Sciences at University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). The lab examines the responses of plants and ecosystems to change in abiotic conditions and the resulting feedbacks from these responses to global change. The successful applicant will join a vibrant group of researchers in the lab, which is housed within the Beadle Center at UNL. The position provides laboratory, field, and administrative support to the Smith Ecophysiology Lab at UNL. Responsibilities The successful candidate will provide laboratory, field, and administrative support to the Smith Ecophysiology Lab at UNL, including: • Collaboratively develop and maintain laboratory protocols • Train and support students and postdocs on lab protocols and during lab safety trainings • Conduct chemical inventories and maintain SDS records • Perform laboratory protocols relating to plant ecophysiology • Assist in procurement of field and laboratory supplies and materials • Assist in administrative coordination of lab events including scheduling • Assist with writing grant applications to fund future research projects Required Qualifications The applicant must have a B.S. in a field related to the work done in the lab (e.g., biology, environmental sciences, ecology, botany, forestry). The candidate must also have 1-3 years of experience in laboratory and fieldwork in the biological sciences or other related discipline, experience working collaboratively and independently, expert-level command of word processing and spreadsheets, and an ability to quickly learn new lab and field techniques, both with guidance and in a self-taught capacity. Desired Qualifications A masters or doctoral degree in a field related to the work done in the lab (e.g., biology, environmental sciences, ecology, botany, forestry) is preferred. Experience in scientific data management, experience with scientific computing using R and/or Python, experience with plant ecophysiology methods (field and/or lab), grant writing experience, and science communication experience are also preferred. Start Date Preference will be given to applicants that can start by or before January 1, 2027. However, later start dates may be possible. Salary Hourly wage is expected to be $23.50 per hour. Funding is available for one year, with extension of up to three years contingent on satisfactory progress, which will be evaluated at the end of each year.
