A PhD level graduate research assistant position in Applied Forest Ecology is available in the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment at the University of Connecticut. At least one position with full Research Assistant funding will be available to begin studies in the Spring 2027 semester with a January 2027 start date. The position will be related to a USDA-funded project focused on better understanding the effect of tree species losses on forest carbon and water cycling. The project is based around a forest disturbance emulation experiment and will focus on structural, compositional, and functional responses to disturbance using a variety of methods including terrestrial lidar, sap flux sensors, and traditional forest inventory methods. The Applied Forest Ecology Lab conducts primary and applied research focused on improving our understanding of forest ecosystems and developing strategies to promote resilience in forest landscapes.
