One technician is needed for a full-time seasonal OPS position (approx. early January through June, with possibility of extension) supporting long-term monitoring studies of wading bird prey in the Florida Everglades. Duties for the position include field sampling of fish and macroinvertebrates using a throw trap and bar seine, environmental and GPS data collection, GIS work, and fish and macroinvertebrate identification and processing in the lab. Sampling is conducted via helicopter across the entire Everglades system. Technicians may also have the opportunity to participate in other ongoing research projects within the lab. Salary is ~$3,000-3,200/month. Technicians must provide own housing and transportation to Florida Atlantic University. Applicants should be highly motivated, well organized, and able to work long hours in subtropical wetland field conditions (heat, insects, alligators, snakes, etc.) while maintaining a positive attitude. Experience that demonstrates accurate data collection and research skills specific to the project above is required. A valid driver’s license and a good driving record is required.
