The Graduate School at Louisiana State University offers two competitive fellowships: the Huel D. Perkins and Southern Regional Education Board Fellowships (SREB) https://www.lsu.edu/graduateschool/funding/awards.php). These fellowships require applicants to be US citizens (Perkins, SREB) or US permanent residents (SREB). Departments must nominate candidates for consideration (i.e., candidates may not apply directly) with the number of nominations allowed dependent on the department’s graduate student population size. Dr. Sabrina Taylor, in the School of Renewable Natural Resources (RNR) at LSU, is inviting inquiries to nominate candidates for these fellowships (a maximum of 2 candidates may be nominated from RNR). A successful applicant would focus on the conservation genomics of clouded leopards, with a focus on creating a genetic pedigree for maintaining a sustainable zoo housed population. Qualifications: an excellent academic record, experience with genetic analyses (lab and bioinformatics) ideally including whole genome analyses, excellent writing and organizational skills, and ability to work in a collaborative group. Research will be in collaboration with Dr. Jilian Fazio, Director of the Essex County Turtle Back Zoo and US Species Survival Plan Coordinator for clouded leopards.
