We are recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to collaborate on a 3-year, NSF-funded, multi-institutional project with collaborators at Montana State University and Northern Michigan University. Broadly, our goal is to broaden understanding of positive biotic interactions (mutualism, commensalism, facilitation) in freshwater ecosystems by exploring matters of spatial scaling and context dependency across the landscape. The postdoc will have two primary duties: 1) collaborating on a replicated set of in situ experiments in streams in South Carolina, Michigan, and Montana; and 2) leveraging a large dataset of stream fish community occurrences to investigate distributional relationships between nest-building fishes and their associates. The postdoc will work directly with Dr. Brandon Peoples, and will collaborate closely with the labs of Drs. Lindsey Albertson and Ben Tumulo from MSU and NMU, respectively. There will also be ample opportunities for pursuing independent research questions as part of a growing collaborative research group, as well as professional development tailored to your career interests. Ideal candidates will have 1) strong analytical skillset and experience working with large datasets; 2) field experience in freshwater ecology, preferably conducting experiments and/or working with aquatic insects; and 3) proven experience with scientific writing and nontechnical communication.
