One graduate position is available in the Division of Coastal Sciences within the School of Ocean Science and Engineering (https://www.usm.edu/ocean-science-engineering/index.php) at The University of Southern Mississippi (https://www.usm.edu/gulf-coast-research-laboratory/). The position will be based at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The graduate student is expected to begin in Spring 2027 and will conduct research focused on evaluating nature-based solutions for habitat restoration and water quality improvement. The project will explore innovative and sustainable approaches to reducing nutrient pollution, enhancing aquatic and coastal habitats, and strengthening ecosystem resilience. The student will gain hands-on experience in field and lab research, experimental design, data analysis, and the application of ecological science to address pressing coastal environmental challenges. Applicants should be highly motivated to develop new research skills and hold a B.S. degree in botany, ecology, biology, environmental science, or a closely related field, with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Experience with quantitative modeling, GIS, or remote sensing is desirable but not required. The successful candidate will receive a graduate assistantship that includes a competitive stipend, tuition waiver, and access to university-sponsored health insurance.
