Dear Colleagues, Archbold Biological Station invites applications for its 2027 Visiting Scholar Fellowship Program, which supports graduate students and postdoctoral researchers conducting field-based research at Archbold Biological Station and Buck Island Ranch in south-central Florida. Fellowships of up to $3,000 will be awarded to support research-related expenses, including travel, supplies, food, and field costs. Awardees are also eligible for free shared housing or discounted private housing, subject to availability. Archbold's 20,000-acre research landscape includes globally significant Florida scrub, grasslands, wetlands, and a working cattle ranch. Research programs span Agroecology, Avian Ecology, Conservation of Military Landscapes, Entomology, Herpetology, Limnology, Plant Ecology, and Predator-Prey Ecology. The Visiting Scholar Fellowship is designed to support early-career scientists while fostering new collaborations and making use of Archbold's distinctive field sites, long-term datasets, collections, expertise, and conservation partnerships. Eligibility Applicants must be: * Enrolled graduate students (M.S. or Ph.D.) or postdoctoral researchers in any area of field biology. * Proposing research conducted at Archbold Biological Station, Buck Island Ranch, or the immediate surrounding region. * Committed to spending at least four cumulative weeks on-site at Archbold during the project period. Previous fellowship recipients are generally not eligible. Research Areas We welcome proposals from a broad range of ecological disciplines and study systems, including: * Agroecology * Conservation biology * Population and behavioral ecology * Disturbance ecology * Human-natural systems * Wetland, grassland, scrub, and ranchland ecology * Plant, animal, microbial, and ecosystem studies Applicants do not need prior experience working at Archbold. Evaluation Criteria Applications will be evaluated based on: * Intellectual merit and novelty * Broader impacts for conservation and education * Alignment with Archbold's mission * Use of Archbold's unique resources, places, data, collections, and expertise * Feasibility * Potential contributions to Archbold's research community Important Requirement Prospective applicants should contact the appropriate Archbold Program Director well before the deadline, as each fellow must have a sponsor from Archbold's scientific staff.
