What We Seek: Amigo Environmental, LLC is seeking an On-Call Biologist to join our natural resources team and provide field support on a variety of environmental projects. In this position, you will conduct biological and/or waters field surveys; monitor construction, vegetation management, and other potential ground disturbing activities; and prepare field survey and monitoring reports. Your work will help to establish and expand Amigo’s natural resources team throughout California. In this role, you will have daily coordination and collaboration with a multi-disciplinary project team to accomplish shared objectives. Travel, including overnight stays, may be required for this position. Fieldwork will be mainly in the southern California region. We provide biological consulting services; aquatic resources delineations and permitting; habitat restoration and revegetation; GIS analysis, modeling, and database management; and California Environmental Quality Act and National Environmental Policy Act compliance. LOCATION • Southern California and surrounding areas COMPENSATION • This is a non-exempt, on-call hourly position with a base pay of $25.00-$45.00+/hour, commensurate with experience. HOURS • Part time, as-needed (hours to vary, with overtime occurring regularly, but anticipated to average less than 30 hours/week over a 12-month period) RESPONSIBILITIES • Conduct wildlife, waters and vegetation baseline studies, nesting bird surveys, and biological evaluations and assessments. • Collect field data, record and identify fauna and flora. Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS units, and other maps and tools to determine exact locations of project areas, habitat types, and associated landforms. 2 • Photograph and take detailed notes of habitats, species, and landforms. Operate vehicles safely, including operation of 4-wheel-drive vehicles on rugged, back-country roads. • Follow industry-leading safety check-in and reporting procedures. • Understand project environmental requirements and the applicable laws and regulations protecting biological resources. • Communicate effectively with project managers, construction crews, and other environmental specialists to complete the field work and reporting requirements. • Maintain positive relationships with clients and public agencies. EDUCATION AND TRAINING • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related life sciences field OR equivalent professional experience required. • Knowledge of common and special status California fauna is required and experience working throughout southern California ecosystems. • Prior experience with GIS software (FieldMaps and Survey123) and various GPS units and ability to use technology for data collection. • Ability to travel to a location (sometimes remote), walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain, often at high altitudes, and ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds is required. • Excellent communication and organizational skills. • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Word and Excel. • Report or other writing experience for a variety of project types, preferably in an environmental consulting context. • Must reside in Central or Southern California. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Minimum of three years OR field seasons of experience completing biological surveys, fieldwork, habitat assessments, and/or construction monitoring; experience with southern California species and habitats. • 40-hr delineation workshop or similar training course for aquatic resources and jurisdictional delineations. • 10(a) 1(a) permits for various wildlife surveys are a plus, and/or botanical experience.
